Successful Latino

Mission Statement:

To show and inspire Latino/a high school students successful Latino's & Latina 's in various professions.

How will this be done?

The idea is to have an online directory for high school students to explore different professions within different industries. One would be able to click on an industry then a profession and finally be able to click on an individual to learn more about them and their job (Industry à Profession à Individual). Once upon an individuals profile there will be five one-minute videos that address five questions:

  1. Who is the individual?
  2. What is it that they do?
  3. How did they get to where they are today?
  4. What challenges did they have to overcome?
  5. What advice would they give a young person?

Who is a Successful Latino/a?

I'm not one to define another person's goals and dreams. My definition of success is somebody who is doing what they want to be doing. If you want to be doctor and you are now a doctor or on your way to become a doctor you're successful. If you want to be a mechanic and now you're fixing cars or customizing cars then you are successful. Essentially if you doing what you love then share it with younger generation.

My pitch to professionals:

Fifteen minutes of your time can inspire hundreds of kids.

Five Questions Professionals need to answer in one-minute videos:

  1. Who are you?
  2. What is it that you do?
  3. How did you get to where you are today?
  4. What challenges have you had to overcome?
  5. What advice would you give a young person?

What I will start working on:

  1. Build an online platform where it will be easy for professionals to upload videos onto www.successfullatino.com
  2. Make the website user friendly for high school students to search for different professionals.
  3. Start marketing the website to professionals then to high school students.

I'm always interested in any advice, comments, suggestions, and any help that you can provide. Feel free to contact me at mauricio.leyva85@gmail.com.
